About the StittsvilleBA

In all great small-towns businesses support their communities and communities support their businesses. Stittsville residents are all passionate about this great place and maintaining it's rich heritage. A lot of that has to do with the fantastic businesses that exist here. Did you know there are over 400 businesses in Stittsville? Probably not. That's why we need to act now! A courageous group of business owners is stepping up and taking the lead on an initiative that will highlight all the great businesses Stittsville has to offer.

The Stittsville Business Association (SBA) has been created to help businesses thrive. It's a membership based association where any business that operates within the electoral boundaries of Stittsville can join. It will be a diverse group made up of small businesses, large businesses, business for self and home based businesses.

Our mandate is to return value to our members. This can be done in so many ways however in our first year of operation we're focusing on building our membership base. Therefore we will have a dual focus of providing immediate value added for our members while simultaneously building our bigger plans for the future.

In year one we plan on spending much of our time speaking with business owners and educating them on what it is we're trying to accomplish and also how it can help their business.

Our three key focuses at the onset will be:

1. Enhanced visibility for businesses - this will initially be done through social media pages owned by the SBA and a website that will be developed acting as a directory for members. Both of these will be platforms for us to amplify your reach and continually showcase the wonderful member businesses. We have strategies built around this that you can learn more about.

2. Business to business networking (B2B) - we plan to hold another 4 networking events this year after this one to encourage businesses to discover what's in our own backyard. There are countless examples of businesses using services outside of Stittsville simply because they did not know the same service existed in Stittsville or hadn't created the relationship. As business owners we can get to know one another and support each other by shopping local.

3. Listen and Learn - Listening to members and what they would like to see the association do in the years to come from which we will start to build action plans with timelines for some of these bigger scope projects.

Secretary

I was born and raised in a small community west of Kingston, Ontario, where I developed at a young age a strong belief in the power of communities to have a positive impact on people’s lives. As the daughter of parents who spent countless hours giving back to that community, I have carried that example with me into my adulthood, and I am constantly looking for ways to make a positive impact on my own community. As the former owner and operator of Rainbow Foods – a natural health retailer formerly with three locations and a team of over 90 employees – I am an experienced business owner and entrepreneur. While operating Rainbow Foods, I was recognized several times for my contributions as a local small business owner, including being the recipient in 2018 of the Ottawa Board of Trade’s Forty Under 40 award. After successfully selling Rainbow Foods in late 2020, I ventured into a new career and now work full time as a licensed real estate agent. This new career enables me to continue to work within and for our community and surrounding areas. Now, as a proud resident of this beautiful community, a mother of three young girls and a seasoned
business owner, I will bring knowledge and experience to the Stittsville Business Association and the community as a whole.

Growing up, I played competitive hockey in Blackburn Hamlet, a small community on the edge of Orleans. Every year my dad dreaded the trip to Stittsville because we’d go all the way out just to have “our lunches handed to us” – Stittsville always had a very strong team. However, the travel was always worth it because we loved the unique, small-town atmosphere that Stittsville provided.

After graduating university, I lived in Orleans. Upon the arrival of my third son, it was apparent that we had outgrown the house and started to look to homebuilders in the area. There was one caveat; the backyard needed to be big enough to allow for an outdoor rink. Following numerous failed attempts to find a suitable yard, one house builder recommended that I try looking in Stittsville. It only took one drive out to once again fall in love with the sense of community that is distinctive here. In the fifteen years that I have lived in Stittsville I have coached over 25 youth teams and still play in the Stittsville Men’s Hockey League. Professionally, I spent over a decade at Export Development Canada (EDC) in the Small Business Financial Solutions branch. I am currently using that knowledge and experience gained to protect many Stittsville businesses, as a Commercial Insurance Advisor at BrokerLink (previously Bradley’s Insurance) on Stittsville Main Street.

I am passionate about helping Stittsville businesses thrive in this community that I love.

Mandy Faulkner

Director at Large

I’m Mandy Faulkner (she/her) and I am the owner and operator (along with my partner Daniel) of @ the Barn which hosts Stittsville’s very own Farmer’s Market. I am also a Registered Holistic Nutritionist and owner of Faulkner Family Nutrition. When the little log barn went up for sale a couple of years ago, I jumped at the opportunity to bring my passions together. Our health is not only impacted by the food we eat, but also the community in which we surround ourselves with. That’s why it’s been so important to focus on bringing local, sustainable, organic farmers to our market while helping facilitate relationships between farmer/producer/maker and community.

Kato Hamilton

Social Media & Marketing Coordinator

My name is Kato and I am one of the newest members of the team for the Stittsville BA. I moved to Stittsville in 2016 and can see why it is such an appealing community to be a part of. I’m looking forward to working with this team by giving back to the community and business owners alike. With my background in entrepreneurship and my significant other owning his own business in town as well, I truly respect and understand all of the hard work and effort that goes into being a successful small business owner. I went to school for Business Management & Entrepreneurship and have worked extensively with business owners by helping their business grow, whether that be in management, finance or marketing. I am currently employed with Warmstone Family Dentistry as their Marketing Associate. I’ve grown to really love marketing and being able to express my creativity through my work and I thoroughly enjoy learning the ins and outs of social media marketing & management. I have a passion for learning and exposing myself to new experiences in life. I am also very much looking forward to starting this new chapter in my life with our first little one on the way. Aside from business & marketing, you can find me spending time in nature with my family & my husky, or going camping in our self-converted camper van.
